The Tribes Project: The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Introduction of project
We created performances with three questions in mind . What does it mean to belong? How important is it to belong? and Is belonging always a good thing? Based off the the book " Absolutely True Diary of A Part-time Indian". We performed original pieces of poetry, short plays and excerpts from the novel.
The House on Mango Street
In the first week of school we were put into a group of four to five and each group was given a chapter from the book The house on Mango St. and had to perform it the next day with noises substituting words. Below are pictures of my group and I still trying to figure out what we were doing and performing on the same day.
Interviewing Jose M.
We were paired up in groups of two. We had 40min. (20 min. each) to interview one another. We asked guiding questions like who is the most important person in your life? and What are important moments of your life? Before I would just see him as a classmate, peer but now getting to interview him I didn't just get the basic stuff he likes I passed that layer and got to know him as a person, as a friend. Here is where you can find all of my drafts of I sing to you poems
8th grade Critique Session
We met with a class of 8th graders to have a critique session, us 10th graders had to critique their personal essays and they had to critique but in that small amount of time and the size of my group with three 10th graders and one 8th grader all of us were so focused on helping her we didn't have enough time for her to critique us.

Human Sculptures Activity How we started this activity was when we were first getting started on reading the book Dr.p chose lines of the novel and we had to figure out what he was trying to say out of context with the person next to us. Then we picked our own lines that we liked and Dr.p collected all of them and picked them randomly. All of us had to pare up with someone and one of the people in the group had to make a tableau out of the other person based on the sentence he read out loud. (FIX) Self-Portrait I chose this picture because I find my self constantly laughing. I really didn't have a reason on choosing the spot I did. My group just thought it would be a good spot because not everyone would have the same background. All I knew that I wanted to be sitting down in my picture, "Belonging" For a homework assessment we had an variety of articles and choose the one that stuck out to us most and antidote the article we chose. I chose the article about White Californians "choosing" their racial identity. This article is about a group of kids that can choose their racial identity with the help from the music they listen to, social media and the way they dress. What I had performed My group and I preformed a short play based off of the "Unspoken rules of fisticuffs" from the novel Absolutely true Diary of a Part-time Indian. Our performance was about The unspoken rules of girls growing up and we had three stages The Princess Club (5 year olds), The Drama Queens (middle school) and The Cool Kids (high school). We just wrote stuff that we had went through and hoped it was relatable which majority was. Reflection 1. What tribes do you belong to? - I belong to the tribes of annoying little sisters,, California locals and food fanatics. 2. What did I learn about "writing for a client" that I want to remember for the next projects? -To keep in mind your writing for them, what they want. And to make sure its done on time or when expected. 3. What did I learn about descriptive writing that you want to remember for the next project? - For performing poems its more interesting when you add sensory detail. And im guessing most of our projects will have to do with poems or performing. 4. What did you learn about collaboration that you want to remember for the next project? - I mean I have been in the HTH system for five years now and have done countless group projects and having to work with many different kinds of people so I think I already have an idea on how to collaborate. 5. What is a moment that you would want to remember from this project? - Having my group be really close and laughing all the time. Then having a group meeting at Starbucks on the weekend to get work done. |
